PEOPLE LIKE US AND ERGO PHIZMIZPRS Foundation for New Music and Arts Council England present the world premiere of BOOTS, a special live performance event from two of "the world's leading practioners of plunderphonics" (PostEverything.com). Come along to the Quay Arts Centre in Newport for an evening of musical chaos, comedy and absurdity, with two of "the world's leading practitioners of plunderphonics", People Like Us & Ergo Phizmiz. Using vintage turntables and a selection of musical instruments, the two acclaimed sound-manipulators will create an exclusive and brand new mash-up live set, using the sound of traditional ballroom music to create mixed and mashed collages of musical silliness. All audience members will receive a free CD of exclusive new material, plus drinks promotions will be available. There will also be an opportunity to meet the artists after the performance, with drinks and music from DJ Bill Room (aka Planck). For 16 years Vicki Bennett has been making CDs, radio, and A/V multimedia under the name People Like Us. Ever since she has been animating and recontextualising found footage collages with an equally witty and dark view of popular culture with a surrealistic edge, both pre-recorded and in a live setting. Vicki has shown work at, amongst others, Tate Modern, The National Film Theatre, Purcell Room, The ICA, Sydney Opera House, Pompidou Centre, Sonar in Barcelona and The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. She has also performed radio sessions for BBC's John Peel, Mixing It, and also CBC, KPFA and does a regular radio show on WFMU. Vicki is currently Artist in Residence at the BBC Creative Archive. Ergo Phizmiz is an Isle of Wight-based artist working in sound, video and multimedia, taking human culture and mashing & manipulating it into new shapes and forms. A singularly prolific artist, he has created over 300 hours of audio and video around the world, including work for the Tate Modern, the Royal Festival Hall, Artists-In-The-City, the Dutch Academy of Fine Art, Cherbourg-Octeville School of Music, Resonance FM, Ubuweb, WFMU, and Sonic Arts Network.
